Episode 120 - It Was Never About the Cake with Teresa Schmitz, ACC

by Karin Lewis, MA, LMFT, CEDS

In this episode, Karin welcomes Teresa Schmitz, ACC, coach, blogger, and author to the show for, “It Was Never About the Cake.”

Join Karin and Teresa for a conversation on societal misconceptions of those living in a larger body, the role of internal and external validation, the harm of feeling like one “failed” a diet, why BMI is not an accurate health measurement, simultaneously moving through recovery and menopause, shifting one’s mindset away from traditional eating disorder diagnosis and stereotypes, Teresa’s motivation and process of publishing her first book, “It Was Never About the Cake,” and more!

Teresa Schmitz, ACC (she/her) started her own coaching practice focused on empowering women to show up authentically and love themselves unconditionally, no matter their size, during her recovery journey from an eating disorder diagnosis at mid-life. Along her journey, she discovered that many suffer from body image issues, regardless of whether they have suffered from an eating disorder or not. Compelled to change how we view ourselves and our bodies, Teresa started her practice with the goal of empowering others to feel like she did when she recovered – My Best Self Yet! Thus, the name and brand was launched.

Teresa is an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) through the International Coaching Federation (ICF). She is also a Sr Communications Manager, focused on change management, training, and communications within a User Experience and Business Adoption team at a Fortune 250 company. She received her eating disorder treatment through The Emily Program and was a guest blogger for them for a few months last year.

Teresa will be releasing her first book, “It Was Never About the Cake: A Middle-Aged Woman’s Journey of Overcoming an Eating Disorder and Discovering Her Best Self,” on October 27th 2022, which will chronicle Teresa’s recovery journey with food and body.
